Fact and legend mingle to give us a picture of life in the Court of Great Moghul. Akbar was born 418 years ago. As a young man, he was called upon to rule a vast Empire. With single-minded devotion he served Hindustan, brought unity to her far-flung peoples, gave them the sense and spirit of nationhood. This is the story of those epoch-making times.
Akbar and Jodhabai prayed for a son who would continue the work of his father. A son was born - Saleem, who was later to become the emperor Jahangir. This is the story of Akbar, Emperor and father, taming and disciplining the turbulent Saleem.
It was no easy task. The Prince, grown to manhood, sought the love of Anarkali, a servant girl. For Saleem, Hindustan was but a foot-stool for Anarkali. For Akbar, Hindustan was above all else. This is the story of the clash of father and son, a clash which threatened the stability of an Empire.
Here, as never before, in striking detail, is captured the tragic story which has been carried down to us on the lips of countless million.
